informationDestination Details

Established in 2015 by conservation photographer and bird of prey handler Lewis Phillips. He has been working in conservation, educating the public and flying birds for over ten years. Lewis has worked alongside many different conservation trusts in Britain and other countries around the world. We aspire to teach people about real issues that affect birds of prey in the wild.

We aim to encourage education on habitat management and the politics that can affect birds of prey. But more than all of that we want you to have as much fun as possible with us while you are flying our birds of prey in the stunning countryside of Wales. Come visit us for a falconry experience Wales.

Our full day package is for true bird and conservation lovers. It has slightly more information on husbandry and dietary needs. It will also give you more birds to handle and fly with. We meet at the Ty Newyedd Country Hotel for refreshments before we head onto the farm. Once the we head out onto 250 acres where we will fly the Harris Hawks, they are a pack hunter so we become part of the pack and interact with the birds by flushing and working with them to give them as much stimulation as possible. There will be plenty of handling and flights to the glove with images possible. The walk can take up to 1 hour 30 minutes but can be catered to suit all needs and fitness. Once back with the Hawks we head to our local disused church located next to the farm. Built during medieval times the building and environment is ancient and an amazing venue to fly and experience our species of owls. We look at adaptations and environment so you get a better understand of the importance of hunting by sound and silent flight. We then head back to the hotel for light lunch.

We head on the the Moel Penderyn, a small hill located next to the farm. This is where yo will experience Rupert our Gyr/Saker, at this area Rupert can gain height in the right conditions and cover over 10 miles in 30 minutes and produce stoops of over 1000ft. This is where you get a good look at the importance of out telemetry system and how we use it to showcase research. You will also be given a chance to swing a lure but not when the bird is out of the van. Once Rupert is back down to the lure we then get our smallest but very beautiful Buzzard Eagle out and again take her up on the the Moel. With a wingspan of 5ft and truly stunning plumage Takora again can use her wing loading to show great slope soaring with speeds capable of 100mph.

We meet for tea and coffee at the Ty Newyedd Country Hotel for 9 45am. A day never to be forgotten. This experience is for the most serious wildlife and bird watching lovers. Set in the countryside of the Brecon Beacons National park you shall experience a day with our largest team members. Taking the team up to heights of 500m above sea level from this height our birds get to fly in over 5000 acres. But before we go there we start with our team of Harris Hawks, this will give you a comfortable experience of flying smaller birds to your glove. We will be flying in mixed woodland where on an average outing the Hawks can cover up to 5 miles. We offer them the chance of natural behaviour where they can hunt for Grey Squirrels which are not native to the UK and regarded as a pest but also rabbits. There is no better way than starting of our day than by heading out with pack hunters. Once back at the farm we when get ready to take our largest bird out for a walk up to 400m, the Moel Penderyn is a hill situated next to the farm. It forms part of the landscape known as the Neath Disturbance and is situated in limestone and waterfall country. This a perfect place to spend time with our Ruppells Griffon, in his own right Harry is a bit of a local celebrity and is without doubt our most important species in the collection due to being critically endangered. Harry will climb the hill with us but once at the top he can get his impressive 14lbs of weight into the air with the use of his 9ft wingspan. We inform you of all this issues vultures face around the world and the importance of their role in the environment. We then head you back to the hotel for light lunch and refreshments.

After lunch we head to another location within the National park. At this point we will be off road heading up into the hills with our eagles and falcon. The location is trully inspiring and where you would expect to dee eagles if the were currently in Wales. One of our eagles florence will be with us as part of the trip. Again she is and important species for Wales and a ambassador for her species. With a wingspan of 8ft the White Tail was native to the UK. Unfortunately they became persecuted to extinction but today with good science and collaboration the species are being returned. If we have te correct weather she can gain heights of over 2000ft of which she will come down and land comfortably on the glove, an unforgettable memory. Not just eagle territory but haven for falcons, large open space where you can witness the fasted animal on the planet. Rupert is a Gyr/Saker and loves the outdoors. With our GPS system we monitor exactly what the birds are doing when on the wing and we often have Rupert flying to the lure at speeds of 100mph. During this experience we can take all the images for you so you have plenty of memories to take home and cherish.
